Vicki Peters

My name is Vicki Peters, I am a self-taught artist, illustrator, and cartoonist. For as long as I can remember, I have had the need to paint, create, absorb everything around me. Two main influences for my art – my first, has been my childhood friend’s father, Victor Francis Pelletier, an Anishinaabe from First Nations in Serpent River, Ontario. As a child, I remember seeing him sitting at the table, with family and friends, discussing important events and how important it was for him to pass on his history and culture. My second influence was a book I was given when I was about 18 years old, black and white photos taken by renowned American Photographer Edward S Curtis, Visions of a Vanishing Race, and I have been painting Indigenous portraits ever since.
